Two Juveniles Arrested After High-Speed Chase, Officer-Involved Shooting in Donna
Stolen Vehicle Spotted at International Bridge Sparks Dramatic Pursuit
DONNA, TX — Two teenagers, ages around 14 and 15, are in custody following a traffic stop of a stolen Jeep from Brownsville triggered a chaotic chain of events at the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge that included an officer-involved shooting and a high-speed chase through Hidalgo County.
The incident began when law enforcement spotted the stolen vehicle at the international bridge. As an officer approached, the juvenile driver attempted to run him over, prompting the officer to fire his weapon in self-defense, according to authorities.
The juveniles then fled at high speed, leading officers on a pursuit that ultimately ended near the city of Donna, where the pair abandoned the vehicle in a field and tried to escape on foot.
Both suspects were quickly apprehended after a brief search and now face multiple felony charges.
Charges Filed, Shooting Under Investigation
The juveniles have been charged with:
- Possession of a stolen vehicle
- Evading arrest
- Aggravated assault on a peace officer
Due to the officer discharging his weapon during the incident, the Texas Rangers have launched an investigation into the use of force, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
Ongoing Concerns Over Youth Crime and Vehicle Theft
This incident is the latest in a growing number of juvenile-involved crimes along the South Texas border, including cases tied to vehicle theft, smuggling, and violent confrontations with law enforcement.
Officials continue to warn that teens recruited into criminal activities may be targeted by organized theft or smuggling rings, often unaware of the severe consequences.
