Education Boost: $1M Awarded to Tuition-Free Adult High School Launching in RGV
Innovative School to Serve Adults Without Diplomas in Pharr, Laredo, and Brownsville
PHARR, TX — In a major step toward expanding adult education opportunities in South Texas, Possible Dreams High School has been awarded a $1 million grant to support its launch this fall. The tuition-free high school, designed specifically for adults ages 18 to 50 who have not earned a high school diploma or GED, is being recognized by the Texas Education Agency as a vital new model for closing education gaps.
Founded by former PSJA ISD superintendent Dr. Daniel King, the school aims to transform lives by providing a flexible, career-connected education at no cost to students.
Multiple Campuses, Career Partnerships
The school’s main campus will be located at the former Pharr Event Center, with additional sites opening in Brownsville and Laredo.
Possible Dreams High School will also feature dual enrollment opportunities through partnerships with:
- South Texas College (STC)
- Laredo College
- Texas Southwest College
- Texas State Technical College
This means students can earn industry certifications or college credit while completing their high school education — a first-of-its-kind opportunity in the region for this age group.
Who Can Enroll?
Enrollment will begin this fall for:
- Adults aged 18 to 50
- Residents without a high school diploma or GED
- Students who are motivated to return to school and build their career skills
Community Response and Next Steps
The announcement has drawn praise from local leaders and educators, who say the initiative could reshape workforce development across the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.
Those interested in applying or learning more can visit the school’s official Facebook page, where updates on enrollment dates, class offerings, and campus events will be shared.
