Tragedy Strikes as Man Dies in Weslaco ISD Bus Accident

A fatal collision in Donna leaves a man dead after being struck by a school bus, sparking an investigation and raising questions about road safety.

DONNA, TX — A pedestrian was killed this morning after being struck by a Weslaco ISD school bus on Hernandez Road in Donna. The victim, 72-year-old Filiberto Romero Ramirez, was walking on the south side of the road when the accident occurred.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) spokesperson Maria Hernandez, the incident happened as the bus was traveling along Hernandez Road. Ramirez was hit while walking, and the driver of the bus, whose identity has not been released, immediately stopped to provide aid. Despite efforts to save him, Ramirez succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are still piecing together the details of the incident. The case is currently under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which has yet to disclose whether any charges will be brought against the bus driver.

Weslaco ISD quickly responded to the tragic event, issuing a statement expressing their full cooperation with law enforcement. According to the district, no students were on board the bus at the time of the collision.
