UPDATE: Authorities Identify Suspect in McAllen Shooting That Left One Dead, One Agent Injured
27-year-old Ryan Mosqueda of Michigan opened fire at the RGV Border Patrol Annex before being killed; Agent Ismael García injured but stable.

McALLEN, Texas – Authorities have released new details about the active shooter incident that unfolded Monday morning at the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Annex. During a joint press conference, local, state, and federal officials identified the shooter as Ryan Mosqueda, a 27-year-old man from Michigan.
According to investigators, Mosqueda had been reported missing in Weslaco roughly one hour before the shooting occurred.
Authorities say Mosqueda arrived at the federal facility driving a white vehicle with Michigan license plates, which had unclear or cryptic markings written on the exterior. Upon reaching the annex near La Plaza Mall and the McAllen International Airport, he opened fire with a rifle.
During the incident, Border Patrol Agent Ismael García was shot but is now in stable condition and expected to recover fully.
McAllen Police Chief [Name TBD] confirmed that multiple firearms were found inside Mosqueda’s vehicle, though no explosives were discovered.
The investigation has been formally turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which will work to determine Mosqueda’s motive. As of now, no clear reason has been identified for the attack.
The shooting prompted a major law enforcement response, with assistance from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and other federal agencies.
Traffic around the annex was disrupted due to road closures, causing significant delays in the area.
Officials also confirmed that the McAllen International Airport remains temporarily closed until the surrounding area is cleared and secured by authorities.
