This morning, several law enforcement agencies in the Rio Grande Valley received a significant boost in their capabilities, thanks to a $2.4 million grant awarded from federal funds. The Weslaco, McAllen, Mission, and Edinburg Police Departments each received one new specialty unit, designed to serve during high-risk situations.
These units are not your ordinary police vehicles. “You see the skin on the truck, you see them right there. But that’s all you see. They’ve got infrared, they’ve got Nightbeat, they’ve got video systems. They’re fully decked out,” a representative explained. The high-tech features of these units are expected to greatly enhance the effectiveness and safety of law enforcement operations in the region.
