The National Border Patrol Council is in mourning following the tragic loss of Border Patrol Agent Chris Luna, who was identified as one of the officers killed in a helicopter crash in Starr County, Texas, yesterday. Luna’s dedication and service to his country will never be forgotten.
Agent Luna, who joined the Border Patrol in 2007, was serving as a “Supplemental Aircrew Member (SAM),” a role that involves working with air assets as a subject matter expert for the area they patrol. His commitment to his work and his expertise were well-respected among his colleagues.
Border Patrol Chief Gloria Chavez expressed her condolences, stating, “I knew him and worked with him when I was stationed in RGC. Both his parents are retired agents.” Luna’s family connection to the Border Patrol highlights the deep sense of duty that ran in his blood.

The funeral services for the fallen hero, Border Patrol Agent Chris Luna start today with a visitation at the Legacy Chapel, located at 4610 S Jackson Rd, Edinburg, TX 78539 at 1 pm, a Rosary will have place tonight (3/13/2024) at 7 pm.
There will be a mass at the Basilica Of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle – National Shrine located at 400 Virgen de San Juan Blvd, San Juan, TX 78589, tomorrow (3/14/2024) at 2 pm and the intermission will be at the Hillcrest Memorial Park located at 1701 E Richardson Rd, Edinburg, TX 78541 at 4 pm.
