Mission Possible: Idea Mission HOSA Students Lead the Fight Against Obesity

Idea Mission HOSA students are on a mission to educate and combat obesity rates in the Rio Grande Valley, targeting the youth with innovative strategies.

In the heart of Mission, Texas, a group of senior students from Idea Mission is taking a stand against a prevalent health issue affecting their community: obesity. These students, who are part of the House Occupation Student of America (HOSA), are dedicated to educating their peers and the community at large about the risks of obesity and the importance of prevention and treatment.

Led by a team of six passionate members, Idea Mission HOSA has identified obesity rates as a pressing concern in the Rio Grande Valley, where approximately 75% of the population is considered obese. With one in four individuals classified as overweight and one in three as clinically obese, the students are determined to make a difference.

“We are trying to bring awareness to people so we can fight this epidemic and bring it lower than what it is right now this year,” says Brandon Linan, a member of Idea Mission HOSA.

To achieve their goal, the students are actively engaging with the community through various initiatives. They distribute informative flyers, utilize social media platforms to spread awareness, and organize events aimed at educating the youth about the dangers of obesity and how it can be prevented.

One of their upcoming events is scheduled for this month, where they plan to further their cause and reach more individuals. For those interested in learning more or supporting their efforts, Idea Mission HOSA encourages you to visit their social media pages at @mission_hosa_obesity_awareness.
