McAllen Woman Arrested After Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Highway 107
Investigation Ongoing as Police Await Toxicology Results and Consider Additional Charges
A McAllen woman has been arrested in connection with an auto-pedestrian fatality that occurred early yesterday morning on State Highway 107.
Marilyn Hernandez Magallanes, 33, was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) and making a false report to a peace officer. Her bond was set at $8,000, and both charges stem from the death of Christian Joanna Climaco.
Incident Details
Police responded to a call around 5:20 a.m. near the 8600 block of State Highway 107, where witnesses reported that a vehicle had struck a woman and fled the scene.
Investigators later learned that Climaco exited the moving vehicle driven by Yanez, who was reportedly leaving a local business at the time.
“The operator of that vehicle failed to disclose that information to us. The operator of the vehicle is now arrested,” a McAllen police spokesperson said.
Victim’s Injuries and Cause of Death Under Review
Officials confirmed that Magallanes and Climaco were friends, though the exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear.
“The nature of the injuries on our victim are currently under investigation. The cause of death is being evaluated. We continue to investigate this case, and as we do, we’ll determine if additional charges may follow,” authorities added.
Police Await Toxicology Report
McAllen PD is awaiting a toxicology report to further understand the role of alcohol or other substances in the incident.
