High School Student Arrested After Stolen Vehicle Incident Leads to Lockdown

An 18-year-old high school student was arrested following an incident involving a stolen vehicle that led to a lockdown at Economy High School in Camilla. The incident occurred at approximately 4:16 p.m. when investigators discovered the stolen vehicle in the school’s parking lot.

According to officials, as an officer attempted to make contact with the person responsible, the suspect fled on foot, then re-entered the vehicle and accelerated towards the officers. Officers from both departments approached the vehicle, but the suspect put the vehicle in gear, accelerated, and struck the police investigators. One officer discharged their firearm, but it is believed that the suspect was not hit. The suspect then fled the scene.

Authorities located the abandoned truck, and shortly afterward, the suspect was detained. The lockdown at the high school was initiated as a precautionary measure.
