Authorities have disclosed new information regarding the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred over the weekend. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials stated that the incident originated from a pursuit involving a black Camaro driven by 23-year-old Carlos Daniel Jose Hernandez. The pursuit culminated in Hernandez losing control of the vehicle and crashing into a barrier.
Following the crash, Hernandez fled the scene on foot and sought refuge behind a tree. Upon being approached by a trooper, Hernandez claimed to be armed. Subsequently, the suspect attempted to gain entry into the DPS vehicle, prompting the trooper to discharge his weapon, striking Hernandez multiple times.
The suspect, identified as Hernandez, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Texas Rangers have assumed control of the investigation into this incident.
