Brownsville Independent School District Superintendent Jesus Chavez is addressing parental concerns amid ongoing discussions regarding the potential closure of multiple schools. Chavez cites a $20 million budget deficit as the primary reason for considering these measures, stating that consolidating schools could help reduce costs.
“We are exploring the possibility of consolidating two schools as one of our approaches. It’s important to note that no decisions have been made yet. We are in the early stages of discussion and plan presentation to the community,” Chavez emphasized.
A school board meeting is currently underway, where officials and community members are engaging in dialogue about the proposed school closures. The final decision on this matter is scheduled to be made on April 9th.
