Boil Water Advisory Issued in Progress, TX After Plant Failure
Residents in Progress, Texas, are being urged to boil their tap water following a temporary disruption in the city’s water supply. The Military Highway Water Supply Corporation issued the boil water advisory after an equipment failure at a local water treatment plant caused the system to lose pressure Monday afternoon.
Although normal operations have since resumed, health officials caution that tap water may still be unsafe to drink or use without boiling.
What Happened?
According to officials, a failure at the water plant led to a drop in water distribution pressure for approximately one hour. While the issue was promptly addressed and service was restored, the brief pressure loss increases the risk of contaminants entering the system.
This type of event often triggers automatic advisories in accordance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) protocols.
What Residents Should Do
Until further notice, all residents served by the Military Highway Water Supply Corporation in Progress are advised to:
- Boil water for at least one minute before using it to:
- Drink
- Brush teeth
- Prepare food
- Make ice
- Wash fruits or vegetables
Water should be brought to a rolling boil and cooled before use. Bottled water is also recommended as a temporary alternative.
When Will the Advisory Be Lifted?
Water samples must undergo testing to ensure they meet safety standards before the advisory can be lifted. The Military Highway Water Supply Corporation will notify the public when it is safe to resume normal water use.
Until then, residents should remain cautious and follow all guidance issued by utility and public health officials.
