DHR Unveils First Digital Mammogram Unit in Cameron County to Boost Breast Cancer Detection
DHR Health introduces a state-of-the-art digital mammogram unit in Brownsville, the first in Cameron County, to enhance breast cancer screening and treatment in the Rio Grande Valley.
In a significant move to support breast cancer awareness and treatment, DHR Health unveiled a new digital mammogram unit in Brownsville. The pink-themed ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the introduction of the first of its kind in Cameron County, bringing advanced breast cancer detection technology to the region.
A New Milestone for Breast Cancer Care in the Rio Grande Valley
The newly launched mammogram unit, the first digital unit in Cameron County, is set to provide state-of-the-art breast cancer screening and treatment to residents throughout the Rio Grande Valley. This initiative is part of DHR Health’s ongoing commitment to offering cutting-edge healthcare services to local communities.
Marissa Castaneda, Senior Executive Vice President at DHR Health, highlighted the advanced capabilities of the unit.
“Yes, we have a Siemens unit that is all digital, so it’s able to see more tissue in the breast. It is the most advanced mammography unit available today,” Castaneda stated.
The new technology will enable more accurate and detailed imaging, which is crucial for early detection and treatment planning.
Meeting the Needs of the Community
The addition of this advanced unit is expected to significantly impact breast cancer detection rates in Cameron County and the broader Rio Grande Valley. By expanding access to top-tier screening options, DHR aims to reduce the incidence of late-stage diagnoses and improve patient outcomes.
Importance of Regular Screenings
According to the American Cancer Society, women between the ages of 40 and 44 are given the option to begin annual mammograms. However, it is strongly recommended that women between 45 and 54 get screened every year. For women 55 and older, screenings can be conducted every other year or continue annually, depending on individual health needs and preferences.
DHR’s Role in Breast Cancer Awareness
The unveiling of the digital mammogram unit coincides with the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, underscoring the importance of early detection and regular screenings. The new unit will not only serve Cameron County but will also be a resource for women throughout the Rio Grande Valley who may not have had access to such advanced screening options before.
Conclusion
DHR Health’s investment in a digital mammogram unit sets a new standard for breast cancer care in Cameron County. As the community gathers around the theme of breast cancer awareness this October, the introduction of this unit serves as a reminder of the critical role that advanced technology plays in early detection and treatment. Women throughout the region are encouraged to take advantage of this new resource to ensure their health and well-being.
