Empowering the Latino Community: Poder Latinx Leads Voter Registration Drive in Rio Grande Valley
With 48 days until Election Day, Poder Latinx mobilizes eligible voters through a dedicated registration drive at UTRGV's campus
The Rio Grande Valley community is witnessing a surge in political engagement as Poder Latinx, a nonprofit dedicated to Latino political empowerment, spearheads a significant voter registration drive. With just 48 days remaining until Election Day on October 7th, the organization is actively registering eligible voters to ensure strong representation and participation within the Latino community.
National Voter Registration Day Initiative
Poder Latinx took center stage on National Voter Registration Day by organizing a comprehensive registration drive at the UTRGV campus. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort by news organizations and community groups to encourage citizens to exercise their right to vote. By targeting the Latinx population, Poder Latinx aims to amplify their political influence and ensure their voices are heard in the upcoming elections.
Building Political Power Through Community Engagement
“And we think it’s important because as Latinos, we have power in numbers. There’s so many of us all across Texas, all across the country, and we couldn’t do it without one another. So it’s up to organizations, organizations such as ours, Poder Latinx, to build that political power within the community and know that we help one another to lean on,” stated a spokesperson from Poder Latinx. This sentiment underscores the organization’s mission to foster a unified and empowered Latino electorate.
Accessible Voter Registration Support
Recognizing that some individuals may face challenges in the registration process, Poder Latinx is offering additional support. Organizers are available to answer questions and assist with voter registration statuses. For those unable to register on-site, the organization provides an email contact, [email protected], to schedule appointments for personalized assistance.
Additionally, residents can visit their local county elections office or access resources at Votertexas.org for more information on registering to vote. State law mandates that eligible voters register at least 30 days before Election Day, making timely action essential.
“So if you’re not able to get registered today with us here, you can email us at [email protected] and we can set up an appointment there with us.”
