Donna ISD Classroom Expansion: Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Elementary Wings
Three new classroom wings at Salazar Garza and Singletary Elementary campuses set to enhance early childhood and special needs education
Today marked a significant milestone for the Donna Independent School District as officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of three new classroom wings. These expansions will be built at the Salazar Garza and Singletary Elementary campuses, providing ten classrooms for early childhood learners and an additional classroom designated for special needs students.
Project Overview
The new classroom wings are part of Donna ISD’s commitment to expanding educational facilities to accommodate a growing student population. Each wing will host five classrooms, tailored to meet the needs of early learners and special needs students, ensuring a supportive and enriched learning environment for all.
Funding and Investment
The ambitious expansion project was made possible by the passing of a $120 million bond in May of last year. District officials have allocated $6 million per wing, totaling $18 million for the entire project. This significant investment underscores Donna ISD’s dedication to providing top-notch educational facilities for its students.
Impact on Students and Community
The addition of new classrooms is expected to enhance the educational experience for Donna ISD students. By offering more space and resources, the district aims to better support early childhood education and cater to the unique needs of special education students. The project also reflects Donna ISD’s focus on preparing students for future academic success and higher education.
Completion Timeline
District officials anticipate that all three classroom wings will be completed by this time next year. The timely completion of the project will ensure that students benefit from the new facilities in the upcoming academic year, further strengthening Donna ISD’s educational offerings.
“Donna ISD School District supports students who struggle economically, but they are super talented students and our families deserve the very best. A foundation that starts with three and four year old learning really prepares our students to graduate on time, ready for college,” said Dr. Angela Dominguez, Donna ISD Superintendent.
