McAllen’s District 4 to Host ‘Government for a Day’ Event with Commissioner Castillo
Futuro RGV and City Officials to Connect Residents with Government and Nonprofit Services

Futuro RGV and McAllen officials are set to bring together leaders from government and nonprofit organizations to meet and serve residents of Commissioner Castillo’s District 4. The first-ever “Government for a Day” gathering will take place on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Palmview Community Center, located at 3401 Jordan Avenue, McAllen.
The event, which is free and open to the public, aims to inform the community about the various services available to them, from obtaining passports to public safety and career opportunities. “We created ‘Government for a Day’ to let the people know who they can call for any situation or problem they may face,” said District 4 McAllen City Commissioner Rodolfo “Rudy” Castillo.
Over 30 city departments and 35 city services will be represented at the event, covering a wide range of responsibilities from airport operations to traffic management. The gathering will also feature tables for nonprofit and not-for-profit organizations, providing information on programs that assist city residents.
To ensure a productive and informative experience for attendees, no political materials will be allowed at the tables. In addition, Commissioner Castillo is sponsoring a breakfast and lunch during the event, offering a chance for residents to meet with local leaders and discuss issues that affect them.
Laurel McLeaish, Esq., a member of the Board of Directors for Futuro RGV, praised Commissioner Castillo for his role in this groundbreaking effort. “Commissioner Castillo is our role model for this, and he has been working tirelessly to get the word out to his constituents and the public about the wonderful services provided by the city,” she said.
Among the organizations scheduled to participate are the Boys and Girls Club, Hope Family Health Center, LUPE, Catholic Charities, McAllen Fire, McAllen Health and Code Enforcement, McAllen Police, and many more.
