Residents in La Feria, Texas, are being asked to evacuate as a safety precaution after a support cable snapped on a TV tower owned by Nexstar Media Group. The tower, standing at 1337 feet tall, experienced the cable break, prompting concerns about its stability.
According to Nexstar’s Vice President and General Manager, Jeff Miller, the company was notified of the damage yesterday and promptly dispatched engineers to assess the situation. While there is currently no immediate danger, officials are taking precautions to ensure the safety of residents.
As part of the evacuation efforts, Nexstar will be providing temporary housing for affected residents. Additionally, La Feria Independent School District (ISD) schools will be closed tomorrow, with classes scheduled to resume on Monday, March 18th.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures and proactive actions in the face of potential hazards. Authorities and Nexstar are working diligently to address the situation and ensure the well-being of the community.
