Teen Charged in Mission Hit-and-Run Case After Striking Cyclist

An 18-year-old woman accused of hitting a cyclist and fleeing the scene appeared in a Mission, Texas courtroom. Evelyn Rodriguez Hernandez has been charged with accident involving bodily injury, a serious offense that could carry significant legal consequences.

Charges and Bond

Rodriguez Hernandez was charged after allegedly hitting a 39-year-old cyclist and fleeing the scene. Authorities have set her bond at $100,000. The incident took place as the teen was reportedly on her way to work at a McDonald’s located near Conway Avenue.

A Serious Reminder from Authorities

Mission Police Department spokesperson Jorge Rodriguez emphasized the importance of staying at the scene of an accident.

“If you’re involved in an accident, do not leave the scene. Contact the authorities immediately—either the police department, fire department, or call 911. The worst thing you could do is leave the scene because you will face charges,” said Rodriguez.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the legal and moral obligations that come with being involved in a traffic accident.

Arrest and Investigation

Police were able to track down the teen’s 2015 silver Chevy Sonic at the McDonald’s where she worked. Following the hit-and-run, Rodriguez Hernandez was arrested at her place of employment. Authorities were able to trace her vehicle back to the accident scene, leading to her arrest.

Victim’s Condition

The cyclist, who remains unidentified, sustained rib injuries and was hospitalized. Thankfully, the victim is currently in stable condition, according to reports from Mission PD.
