According to meteorologist Victoria Cantu, filling in for Maria Perez, the region is set to experience high humidity levels and intermittent rain showers over the coming days.
The current weather conditions show temperatures hovering around 82 degrees with partly cloudy skies. The humidity is palpable, standing at 76%, accompanied by a refreshing breeze from the east-southeast at 12 miles per hour. This combination is setting the stage for a sticky, yet breezy, atmosphere across the area.
Rainfall to Affect Key Areas
Rain development is currently underway over the Gulf and is expected to move into South Texas by early morning. Residents in areas such as Hidalgo, Cameron, and Starr counties, along with those near South Padre Island, should prepare for wet conditions. The rain is expected to begin around 3 a.m. and continue into the early morning hours.
The forecast for South Padre Island indicates a temperature of 88 degrees with showers moving in. Overnight lows across McAllen, Edinburg, and Weslaco will be in the mid-70s, with a 94-degree high expected in McAllen and 93 degrees in Edinburg on Friday. There is also the possibility of thunderstorms occurring in isolated areas throughout South Texas.
Weekend Outlook: Balancing Heat and Rain
Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise, feeling like 100 to 101 degrees on Saturday. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) game scheduled for Saturday in Edinburg will see warm conditions, with temperatures around 94 degrees during tailgate time and high 80s by kickoff at 7 p.m.
Despite the warmth, there is a 76% chance of rain in the McAllen and Edinburg areas. Visitors to South Padre Island should also be prepared for a 40% chance of rain on Saturday. Sunday promises clearer skies and warmer temperatures, providing a brief respite from the rain.
Looking Ahead: Extended Forecast
The extended forecast for McAllen shows a 65% chance of rain on Friday, with conditions improving by the weekend. Saturday will be warmer, with temperatures rising to 84 degrees, while Sunday will bring bright and sunny skies. The lows will remain consistent in the mid-70s, and there is potential for rain to return next Tuesday.
