Ken Paxton Sues Snapchat Parent Company Over Child Safety
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated a lawsuit against Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat. The suit accuses the social media giant of misleading parents about the safety of its app and allegedly exposing minors to inappropriate content. Paxton contends that Snapchat has marketed itself as suitable for users as young as 12, despite the inclusion of features that expose minors to profanity, sexual content, nudity, and drug references.
The legal action alleges violations of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. Paxton is pushing for civil penalties and a court order to stop the company from advertising the app as safe for younger audiences. In response, Snap Inc. has firmly disagreed with the lawsuit, emphasizing their continued investment in user safety improvements.
