Major Drug Bust Near Rio Grande River
A dramatic drug bust unfolded in Starr County, Texas, as authorities seized cocaine valued at over $2.2 million. The operation took place on a Saturday when vigilant officers from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Border Patrol observed suspicious activity near Highway 83, close to the Rio Grande River.
Suspicious Activity Leads to Discovery
The authorities noticed four individuals clad in camouflage outfits, each carrying a backpack, making their way across the Rio Grande River. Upon detection, the individuals abandoned their cargo and swiftly retreated back to Mexico. This prompted an immediate investigation by the officers on site.
Substantial Cocaine Seizure
The abandoned backpacks were retrieved by the authorities, revealing two bags containing a total of 30 bundles of cocaine. The narcotics weighed nearly 69 pounds in total. This substantial seizure highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in combating drug trafficking along the US-Mexico border.
