MCALLEN, Texas – An active shooter incident occurred early Monday morning at the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Annex, triggering a swift response from federal and local law enforcement.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the suspect is deceased. No other injuries have been confirmed at this time, though officials say the situation remains under active investigation.
At a press conference held later in the morning, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez addressed the public alongside federal officials.
“Early this morning, an individual entered the RGV Border Patrol Annex with a firearm. Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement responded immediately. The suspect is deceased. This remains a joint investigation,” the chief said.
While the identity of the suspect has not been released, officials confirmed the individual was acting alone. Law enforcement is reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing personnel who were present at the time.
The RGV Sector Annex, located in McAllen, plays a central role in border security operations throughout South Texas. Authorities have not indicated whether the incident disrupted facility operations, but security measures have been heightened. more information is confirmed.
