Man Sentenced to 18 Years for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child
Guilty Pleas Entered After Missed Court Appearance; Sentences to Run Concurrently
Juan Antonio Tafolla, 34, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to two charges of sexual abuse involving a child, following an investigation that led to his conviction on aggravated sexual assault.
According to court records, Tafolla failed to appear in court as required under his bond conditions. However, on March 20, he stood before 206th District Court Judge Rose G. Urena, where he entered guilty pleas to both charges.
The court confirmed that the sentences will run concurrently, meaning Tafolla will serve 18 years total for the offenses.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The charges stem from a police investigation into reports of child sexual abuse. Authorities did not release additional details about the victim in order to protect their identity.
Tafolla‘s failure to appear prior to sentencing further escalated the seriousness of the proceedings, though his guilty plea avoided a full jury trial.
Justice Served
Officials emphasized the importance of pursuing justice for child victims and praised the work of law enforcement and the judicial system in bringing the case to a resolution.
