HARLINGEN, TX — A routine tree-trimming job turned hazardous on Monday afternoon when five individuals were stung by bees at a residence on West Buchanan Street, prompting a response from the Harlingen Fire Department.
Among those affected were a 40-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl, both of whom were treated at the scene by emergency personnel. The remaining three victims — tree workers who had been cutting near a hidden hive — declined further medical treatment.
Quick Response Prevents Further Harm
Emergency crews arrived promptly and administered on-site medical care, ensuring that no victims required hospitalization. The fire department also worked to neutralize the immediate threat while alerting nearby residents to avoid the area.
The hive was located within the branches of a tree in the property’s yard — a common occurrence in South Texas during warmer months, where bees are actively seeking shelter.
